Winter Safety Tips!

Winter in Missouri can be unpredictable, so it is best to be prepared. Poor visibility is the cause of many motor vehicle accidents in mid-Missouri. To help keep everyone on the roadways safe this winter, take a look at our tips to improve visibility in the winter weather. Your trusted car dealer near Jefferson City, Missouri wants to help keep the roads safe as mid-Missourians travel this winter. Provided below, by Spieler’s Incorporated are some helpful ways to improve winter driving visibility.

Remove Snow

With a minimal amount of snowfall thus far, the winter season has only just begun. Try to remove all snow covering your vehicle, before getting out on the road. A snow-covered car can be camouflaged into the landscape, making it difficult for other motorists to see you. Driving around with snow on your roof or bumper can blow around on other vehicles on the road.

Brighten Headlights

If your headlights are dim, brighten them up as soon as possible. Headlights are important for your visibility and to increase visibility of your vehicle to other motorists. Ensure your headlights are on when it is snowing, even during daylight hours. Replace old headlights that are dim and ensure your headlight covers are clear of scratches and other debris.

Fill Up Washer Fluid

The ability to clean off your windshield is important for visibility, especially during the winter months. As precipitation falls from the sky, your windshield wipers will need to be running to clear your view. Dirt and snow can gather on your windshield, making it hard to see, especially in the winter. Keep your windshield washer fluid tank full so you can use it as needed to clear your windshield off.

Low-Beams in the Snow

When a snowstorm strikes, it is best to drive with your low beams on. High beams can reflect off of the falling snow, making it more difficult to see the road. A low- beam setting can help increase roadway visibility, when driving while it is snowing.

Replace Wiper Blades

It is important to start the winter off with fresh wiper blades. Before a snowstorm makes its way into mid-Missouri, replace your blades. Wiper blades are imperative when driving in the snow. They clear off melted snow and other debris, for a clean and clear view of the road. Over time, the rubber on the blades wear and crack, leaving an uneven edge to wipe your windshield.

Now that you know these helpful tips to improve winter driving visibility, you are prepared to help make the roads a safe place to travel.  Keep in mind, it is always best to avoid driving completely when the roads are dangerous and visibility is low. Spieler’s Inc. wants to help keep you and your family safe this winter. The best car dealer in mid-Missouri reminds you to use caution if you need to travel with slow and/or ice on the roadways this winter.

Tips When Traveling With Pets!

As you hit the road this holiday season, traveling with your pet can be stressful. Your trusted car dealer in mid-Missouri is here to share some helpful tips when traveling with pets. Here at Spieler's Inc., we know how much you love your fur babies and we want to help you enjoy traveling this holiday! We have a few tips on how to get prepared for your trip and how to make the trip a little easier.

Plan Ahead

One way to help ease stress while traveling is to plan ahead. You know your pet, so planning for what makes them comfortable will go a long way. Pack a bag of essentials just for your animal.  Grab any toys, leash, travel food/water bowl, food, muzzle (if needed), blanket, pillow, crate, and car harness (if you use one).  Long trips are not the time to test products on your pet. If your pet is never in a crate, this is not the time to try it out.  Practice with your pet prior to leaving, and it will help ease your pet's anxiety.  Many animals get car sick when traveling, so if this is your pet, call the vet to see what remedies they recommend.

Keep Your Pet Safe

Some pets like going on car rides, while others have a ton of anxiety when traveling. No matter the temperament of your animal, make sure they are safe while traveling. Crates are a great way to help contain your pet while traveling. It gives your animal a sense of comfort all while keeping them from jumping all over your vehicle. Crates are also easy to fold up and store when not in use, making them great for traveling. You can also use a pet seatbelt that are easy to fasten to most vehicles. This method gives them the same sense of comfort all while being closer to the family. Avoid allowing your pet to roam while driving, this distraction can cause an accident.

Know your route and any stops you need to make along the way. If you plan on shopping or making extra stops, have a game plan for your pet. Never leave a pet unattended in your vehicle on super hot or super cold days.

Plan Extra Travel Time

Know your route and what areas are pet-friendly. You will need to make a few stops when traveling a long distance to allow your pet to stretch, play, potty and grab a drink. Research areas that allow pets to use the restroom or that have pet parks.  Pet stores that allow pets are great options for a quick stretch in bad weather. Make sure you allow extra time for your stops.

Limit Water & Food

Limit the amount of water and food you give your pet while traveling. Limiting their consumption will help limit the number of bathroom stops you will have to make. It is ok to give your pet water and food but don't give a full feeding. Try to have your pet use the restroom before leaving on your trip, so you can make it a good distance before needing a bathroom break.

Mid-Missouri's Trusted Dealership

Traveling during the holidays should be enjoyable and traveling with your pet doesn't have to be a hassle. The tips above should ease the stress and make your pet more comfortable on your next trip. Not sure if your current vehicle has enough room for all your luggage, family and pets, we can help you upgrade.  If you are thinking about buying a new vehicle in mid-Missouri to give you peace of mind this traveling season, visit Spieler's Incorporated!

Make Sure Your Tires Are Ready For Winter!

Your vehicle was a big investment that carries precious cargo every day. Make sure it is ready for the difficult road conditions this winter. Checking your vehicle over to make sure it is ready for winter can prevent a disastrous situation for you and your family. The tires on your vehicle make a big difference in how your vehicle handles during tough driving conditions. Now is the time to make sure your tires are ready for winter.  Your trusted car dealer in mid-Missouri is here to help you with some tips on what to check on your tires to get your vehicle ready for winter. Here at Spieler's Inc., we know how much you love your car and we want to help you care for it properly! Take a look at the helpful tips below, for caring for your ride.

Not All Tire Treads Are The Same

When the winter snow and freezing weather decides to strike again, you will be glad you put on a set of tires with good tread.  The tread on your tires can make a huge difference in how your vehicle performs this winter.  If your tires are getting close to needing to be replaced, it is best to do it before the bad weather arrives.  Many vehicles that have sport style tires won't perform as well in the winter. The tires are what actually stops the vehicle with its gripping abilities while driving in bad weather. Tires need tread that will maneuver in all weather types to keep your vehicle safe on the road. Most tires can handle everyday driving conditions but the difference will come when the driving conditions become difficult. Choose a set of tires that are safe but can handle even the toughest driving conditions. Not sure if you tread is able to stand up again this upcoming winter, stop in and we can take a look for you.

Proper Tire Inflation

It is important to check your tire pressure on a regular basis. It helps your vehicle's maneuverability and traction. This is especially important in the winter months. As the temperature drops, your tire pressure will drop as well. It is important to keep your tires at the recommended amount to help with tire wear, gas mileage and overall handling of the vehicle. Check your owner's manual if you are unsure the amount of air your tires need. A good practice is to check your tire pressure every time you fill up your vehicle.

Inspect Your Tires Closely

Icy roads and lots of snow can lead to poor driving conditions. Driving during a winter storm can lead to unexpected situations. Make sure your tires are up to the task this winter. Get down and inspect every tire closely.  You want to make sure each tire is free from cuts, cracks, splits, bruises on the tread and sidewall.  Make sure you don't see any bumps or bulges in your tires as well. If you spot any of these items, head over and we will take care of your tire needs.  These conditions can be disastrous if left unrepaired while driving in poor weather conditions. Don't forget to always rotate your tires to help with how your tires wear when driving.

Depend On Tires Made By A Trusted Company

Do your research or give us a call and we can help find you the best set of tires this winter. You spent a lot of time researching the perfect vehicle to buy, so now is the time to research the perfect tires to protect you and your vehicle. Go with a company that has done their research as well as, has a good track record with their products. Tires are an investment that is worth making and should be done with knowledge.  You can choose tires that are strictly for winter or more of an all-season tire, either way, we are your trusted service technicians that can help you with all of your needs.

A great way to create fun memories on your next road trip is to discover fun places to stop along the way. Check out historical sites, fun attractions and eat at favorite local restaurants. You family will make so many memories, the hard part will be figuring out which one is your favorite.

Bonding Time

Trips are one of the best ways a family can bond. You don't have the everyday stresses of work, school, and activities. You tend to be more relaxed which helps create the perfect environment to strengthen your family bond. Make sure you sit back and watch your family discover, play and grow during your trip. Top Winter Car Care Tips

Winter has decided to arrive early in mid-Missouri, so now is the time to review some top winter car care tips to get your car ready for the cold winter weather.  Your trusted car dealer in mid-Missouri is here to help you with some car care tips for this winter. Here at Spieler's Inc., we know how much you love your car and we want to help you care for it properly! Take a look at the helpful tips below, for caring for your ride.

Replace Your Wiper Blades

When the winter snow and freezing weather decides to strike again, you will be glad you put on a new set of wiper blades.  A new set of blades will help you see in all types of weather.  Don't get caught in a stressful driving situation due to poor windshield visibility.  Ice can be hard on your wiper blades so make sure you start your car and try to defrost as much ice as possible before turning on your wipers. You should also scrape the ice with an ice scraper prior to using your wiper blades. This tip will help increase your wiper blade lifespan.

Wash Your Car Regularly

On a regular basis, it is important to wash the exterior of your vehicle. To help keep the paint in good condition, remove any grime that may build up over time. Especially during the winter months, it is important to wash the road salt off of your vehicle. This can help reduce the chance of rust on the underneath side of your vehicle. Helpful hint: Remember to wash the underside of your ride - a drive-through car wash can help you clear that pesky salt off of your vehicle. To keep a flawless look after you wash, wipe your vehicle down with a dry towel to absorb excess water and reduce the risk of water spots on your newly cleaned paint.

Pack An Emergency Kit

Icy roads and lots of snow can lead to poor driving conditions. Driving during a winter storm can lead to unexpected situations. You are at a higher risk of sliding off the road, getting into a fender bender or maybe your car just not performing well. Make sure you are prepared for any situation you may face this winter. You need to have an emergency kit ready to go. A winter emergency kit should include extra gloves, boots, blankets, shovel, sand or kitty litter, tow strap, flashlight with extra batteries, jumper cables, portable battery charger, and car cell phone charger.  You may have a few more items to add but those listed should help if you find yourself in a winter weather situation.

Check Your Tires Tread

The tread on your tires can make a huge difference in how your vehicle performs this winter.  If your tires are getting close to needing to be replaced, it is best to do it before the bad weather arrives.  Many vehicles that have sport style tires won't perform as well in the winter. You may want to invest in winter tires or add chains to help gain traction. Not sure if you tread is able to stand up again this upcoming winter, stop in and we can take a look for you.

Get Your Car Ready For Cooler Temperatures

The cooler weather can be hard on a vehicle. If you find your vehicle idling rough or lights appearing on the dash, make sure you get it addressed soon. You don't want to wait and get stuck broke down alongside the road in freezing temperatures. Now is the time to change your oil, replace dirty air filters, get your battery checked, flush your coolant, and maybe adding fuel de-icer to your gas tank. Need help, we have you covered!

It is important to take care of your vehicle before the winter hits. Now is the time to get your car in perfect working order, so you can handle whatever mother nature throws our way. Not sure if your care is ready for the winter, give us a call and we can look it over for you. 5 Tips for Young Drivers in Honor of Teen Driver Safety Week

It's National Teen Driver Safety Week (October 21-27). Now's the time to focus in on your teens driving habits. If you're looking for talking points for your teen driver, your trusted car dealership in mid-Missouri is here for you! Take a look below to learn ways to better prepare your child for a safe driving experience.

1) Put The Phone Down

A phone can be a major distraction, especially for young drivers. Texting while driving is very dangerous. Even if you don't feel like your eyes leave the road for very long, the driving conditions can change in a split second. Your reaction can be delayed if you are distracted by the phone. A phone call is also distracting. Try to reduce the amount of time spent on the phone when operating a vehicle.

2) Keep an Eye on the Speed

It can be tempting to speed for the thrill or if you are running late. It's important to follow the speed limit when driving. Not only are you endangering yourself, others on the roadway are more at risk if you speed. You are also more likely to get a speeding ticket on your record, which can impact your car insurance rates.

3) Reduce Distractions

Anything that pulls your full attention away from the road is not good when driving. The radio dial, eating food, taking a drink, and fishing for something in the back seat are all examples of distractions while driving. Try to reduce the number of things that pull your attention away from operating the vehicle.

4) Drive Without Passengers

Passengers can be very distracting. From jamming to your favorite song to listening to a story, there are a number of ways your friends can pull your attention away from driving. It's best to have clear boundaries set for anyone who rides in your car. Tell them that you need to focus on driving so it's best to keep noise to a minimum.

5) Drive Defensively

When operating a vehicle, keep in mind the conditions on the roadway can change very quickly. Always be on the lookout for what other drivers are doing and what they may or may not do. It's best to be on the defense when it comes to other drivers on the road. This will help you keep in mind what actions you should take if an urgent situation does arise.

A Guide to All Things Tire Maintenance

Tires are a vital part of your vehicle. They help keep your vehicle on the ground and helps promote a comfortable ride. The holiday and winter season is approaching and now is the time to think about your tires. As your family-owned car dealership in mid-Missouri, we know the importance of tires and how they can directly affect your travel experience. Ensure your tires are ready for your upcoming travels by bringing your vehicle into our California, MO car maintenance department. In the meantime, take a look at our tire guide below!

Replacement

Over time, your tires will naturally wear down and need to be replaced. New tires can help keep you and your family safe on the road, as you travel out of town for the holidays. It is also a good idea to ensure your tires are in proper condition before winter weather strikes in the area. New tires, with good tire tread, can help your vehicle grip when traveling on slick, snow-covered roads.

Rotation

Rotating tires can help to keep them wearing evenly and elongate the lifespan. When your tires are rotated, the back tires and front tires are swapped. This helps to gain maximum life and performance out of your tires. Tires on a vehicle that is front wheel drive may wear unevenly because the tires are used to grip, causing the surface to wear down quicker. If you notice uneven wear when you inspect your tires, you may need to schedule a tire rotation, before heading on a road trip.

Alignment

Proper tire alignment promotes even tire wear and helps to keep your vehicle headed straight when driving on the road. Each vehicle has proper alignment recommendations for the make and model. Over time, traveling on bumpy roads or running over something, your tires can get out of alignment. If you experience drifting or pulling, when you drive your vehicle, it may be time for an alignment.

Balance

A properly balanced tire helps to minimize uneven wear and extend the life of the tires. When a tire is balanced, small weights are attached to the wheel in order to limit vibration of the tire and wheel as they turn. If you notice a vibration when driving, schedule a tire balance for your vehicle before heading out of town for the holidays.

Ensure your check over your tires on a regular basis. Whether you're driving around town achieving daily tasks or heading out for a long road trip to visit family over the holidays, it's important your tires are top of mind. If you're in question, bring your ride by our dealership vehicle maintenance in California, MO. Here at Spieler's Inc., we look forward to helping ensure your tires are ready for a safe trip - no matter where you're headed!
