Spieler’s Incorporated is Busting Car Buying Myths

Let’s face it, car dealers and car salesmen don’t always have the best reputation. There are select dealerships that play games and that are not always truthful. It is those guys that give the car industry a bad name. At Spieler’s Incorporated that is not how we like to do business, and in this week’s blog, your mid mo car dealership will bust some misconceptions and car buying myths.

Buying Used is Always Cheaper

Part of this statement is true. Your typical used car will almost always have a better asking or list price. In the instance you are looking at a late-model used car with low miles, it is smart to price the same car new. Even though MSRP may be higher on the new car, with manufactures incentives you may end up paying a very similar price. There also could be financing advantages on the new car that you will not receive with a used car, making the cost to own the new car less than the used.

Hide Your Trade

Folks will make their best deal with the salesman and then at the end tell them that they want to trade in their current car. We are all adults in this transaction, so let’s not play any games. This is possibly the oldest trick in the book, and this will never play to your advantage. When you are upfront and honest the dealer and salesman will respect that and be open and honest with you.

Cash Buyers Get Better Deals

We have all heard the term “Cash is King.” In some instances that is true, but not necessarily at the car dealership in today’s world. Car manufacturers want to capture your financing and will incentivize an interest rate or include a rebate tied to financing through them. Make sure to look at all the incentives. You don’t want to leave money on the table.

Get Your Own Financing

It never hurts to shop your financing options. The dealership will have many options when it comes to financing and typically their rates will be more aggressive than your local bank or credit union. Also, as previously stated, there are incentivized interest rates that manufacturers offer on their vehicles you won’t find elsewhere.

Buy at the End of the Month

This is a very common misconception. Folks for years have thought that dealerships are trying to hit targets and bonuses so getting deals at the end of the month could be beneficial and in return, they will be more aggressive on pricing because of that. While having targets and bonuses are possible, the dealership knows how to plan the month accordingly to make sure they hit their marks before the end of the month.

New car incentives will typically run from the first of the month to the end of the month and new incentives will roll out on the first of the following month. So, waiting until the end of the month has no bearing on new car incentives. Also, if everyone else thinks the end of the month is when to shop the dealership tends to be busy. Wouldn’t you rather have a salesman’s undivided attention and not be distracted by a showroom full of other car shoppers?

If you are in the market for a new or preowned car, Spieler’s Incorporated is here to help, and no games here! Your California Mo Chrysler Dealership has been family owned and operated for over 50 years. You will enjoy your car shopping with our laid back and no pressure approach. Keeping Your Car Clean is More Important Than You Think

We all love our cars, right? Well, some of us more than others but our cars are an important part of our everyday life. They get us to and from school and work every day and they also have been a part of a lot of our life’s big moments! Here at Spieler’s Incorporated we love cars too, so in this week’s blog, we will explain why keeping your car clean is more important than you might think.

Exterior

The car’s exterior is exposed to the elements of nature and easily gets dirty. Keeping the outside of your car clean is extremely important. Here are a few reasons why:

Preserve the Finish

Your vehicles finish has two layers. There is the paint and then the clear coat on top of the paint. The clear coat is there to give depth to the color as well as protect the cars paint. Dirt, grime, and bugs can wreak havoc on your cars finish. Keeping it clean will reduce the chances of scratches and splattered bugs from eating away at the finish.

Prevent Corrosion and Rust

Pay attention to wheel wells and the undercarriage of your car when you are cleaning. There are many gaps and areas that hold dirt and moisture. Making sure these areas are clean can prevent rust developing.

Better Fuel Mileage
Vehicles are designed to cut through the air with as least drag as possible. Dirt and mud can affect the car's design of air flow around your car.

Interior

Keeping your ride’s interior clean not only makes it look and feel good when you’re driving, it can also impact the resale value of your vehicle.

Prevent Wear and Tear

A clean interior can prolong the life of the materials. Cleaning spills out of the carpet, keeping the dash and seats free of dirt and dust will prolong the life of the material and prevent premature wear and tear.

Driver Safety

Have you ever had an object get under your feet while driving? This can be very dangerous! Keeping your floorboard free of trash can create safer driving conditions. Also, keeping windows clean will allow you to see out of your vehicle easier.

Your Health

Keeping your car’s interior clean can also be healthier for you. Wipe down areas that are often touched to prevent germs from spreading, especially if you have kids in the car. Also eliminating dust from accumulating in the car can help on your allergies.

Value

Keeping your vehicle clean and properly maintained will pay off huge when it comes time to trade in your car. The dealership will see how well you have taken care of your car and they will not have to spend as much on reconditioning.

Pride

We spend a lot of money on our cars. From the initial purchase to insurance, and maintenance cars are expensive to own. Keeping it clean and looking good will give you a sense of pride.

Here at Spieler’s Incorporated, we want you to enjoy your vehicle. Keeping it clean and in tip-top shape will definitely make you enjoy it that much more. If your current car needs repair our California, MO dealership has certified technicians to get you back on the road. Maybe that old car is in need of replacing. Our friendly and knowledgeable sales staff will help you find that new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or Ram that is perfect for you.

9 Tips for Better Fuel Economy

Technology has made cars, trucks, and SUVs way more economical in the last few years, but it seems we are always looking for ways to get better fuel economy. Your Mid- Missouri car dealership knows we all like saving money, especially on a product we use daily! Not only is using less fuel leaving more money in your pocket, but it is also better for the environment. Spieler’s Incorporated would like to share a few tips to help you save at the pump.

1) Remove Baggage

An easy way to improve your fuel efficiency is to lighten your load. Remove any unnecessary items from your vehicle, that may weigh it down. From extra bags you keep forgetting to take out to random boxes full of stuff in the back, removing these items can help improve your fuel efficiency, by simply cleaning out your vehicle.

2) Reduce Wind Resistance

While it may always not be practical, try to avoid traveling a long distance with an item that causes wind resistance. Any items on your luggage racks or large items in the bed of a truck can put a drag on your vehicle, causing it to consume more fuel.

3) Shift Smoothly

Heavy braking and accelerating at a quick pace can put a damper on your fuel efficiency. Try to shift smooth and drive with caution, when traveling in your vehicle. This is an easy way to increase your fuel efficiency.

4) Keep Tires Properly Inflated

Check your tire pressures regularly. A low tire can cause higher rolling resistance and cause a drop in your fuel mileage.

5) Keep an Eye on Speed

Speeding causes your engine to turn more RPMs and in turn, will use more gasoline as your vehicle has to use more fuel to get up to speed. Try to keep your speed at the recommended MPH for the road in which you are traveling.

6) Regular Maintenance

Maintaining your engine can help to keep your fuel usage in check. If there is something wrong with your ride, it may cause your fuel consumption to rise. It's a good idea to know what fuel economy your vehicle gets, that way if it suddenly gets less, you know its time to bring it in to get maintenance.

7) Roll Down Hills

Gravity is on your side when you're driving down a hill. You can let off the gas and coast down many hills. This can help counteract the fuel consumption that is required to get UP the hill. Don't use unnecessary gas to accelerate down a hill, when you will get down it either way.

8) Avoid Heavy Traffic

Stop and go traffic can lead to a higher amount of fuel consumption. If you can, avoid rush hour traffic, where you must accelerate and brake often. This can help reduce the amount of fuel used to navigate to your destination.

9) Plan Your Errands

Driving less will reduce the amount of fuel your vehicle will consume. Try to plan your daily errands so they can be achieved in one trip, therefore lowering your drive time and being more fuel-efficient.

We hope these simple tips will increase your fuel mileage. If you notice a decrease in your fuel economy, bring in to Spieler’s Incorporated Service Department and let us check your vehicle over. Maybe your car is getting dated and it is time to upgrade to a newer model with better fuel mileage. Our California, MO car dealership has a great selection of new and preowned vehicles in stock. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff is here to help you with all your automotive needs.

Our Top 5 Favorite Mopar Cars from the Silver Screen

Cars and Hollywood have always had a great connection. Think of your favorite movie and there is almost always a car that you remember from the film. Your Mid Mo Chrysler dealership has created a list of our favorite Mopar machines from the silver screen. Check it out below and see how Spieler’s Incorporated list stacks up against yours.

1. Bullitt (1968)

You knew this one would be towards the top. I mean you have Steve McQueen, possibly the best car chase ever, and a bad to the bone 1968 Dodge Charger. What more could you ask for? Actor and stuntman Bill Hickman races the 1968 Charger through the streets of San Francisco being chased by McQueen in his green Mustang Fastback. The movie made both cars legends, but the black 440 Charger has always been one of our favorites. Do you think this movie is the reason black was one of the most popular colors on the second-generation chargers?

2. Cannonball (1976)

Another black 1968 Charger playing the bad guy made the list. The main character Coy “Cannonball” Buckman, played by David Carradine, enters his Trans Am in a no rules underground street race across the country. His nemesis is behind the wheel of a triple black 1968 Dodge Charger. This is only one of the few movies based on the famous real-life cross-country race invented by Brock Yates.

3. The Blues Brothers (1980)

John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd play Jake and Elwood Blues, the characters from the musical sketch on Saturday Night Live. The brothers set out to save the Catholic orphanage where they were raised. The “Bluesmobile” is a 1974 Dodge Monaco sedan. The car was a decommissioned police car that Elwood bought after trading his Cadillac for a microphone. The Monaco was equipped with a 440 Magnum and the squad car package, a real option offered on the Monaco from Dodge in 1974. Dan Aykroyd, co-writer of the movie said he chose the Monaco because he considered it to be the hottest police car used in the 1970s. Boy, was he right!

4. Christine (1983)

This wild flick is about Arnie Cunningham and his 1958 Plymouth Fury “Christine”. Arnie restores the car from a battered state and quickly learns the Fury has a mind of its own. Some bully’s from school vandalize the car and Christine takes off on her own to seek revenge on the bullies that hurt her. Somewhat disturbing, but it is undeniable that the red and white Fury is a beautiful car!

5. Tommy Boy (1995)

Another Saturday Night Live duo, Chris Farley and David Spade star in this road trip classic. Tommy played by Farley searches for a way to save his father’s auto parts company after his father’s unexpected death. Tommy enlists his late father’s right-hand man Richard, played by Spade, to help. They travel across the country in Richard’s 1967 Plymouth GTX Convertible. Tommy and Richard find friendship, although the GTX gets destroyed along the way.

We hope this was as fun for you as it was for us. How does it compare to your ‘favorites’ list?  Spieler’s Incorporated has been family owned and operated for over 50 years and is your Mid Missouri Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram dealer. Unfortunately, we don’t have any classics from the list to show you, but we do have a great selection of new and preowned cars, trucks, and SUVs in stock at our California, MO dealership. You will love our laid-back approach and how easy we make it to shop for a new or used car!

Vehicle Checklist Before Heading to College

July is the last month of summer before it’s time to go back to college. Whether you or your kids are going back, it’s important to make sure your car is reliable for the upcoming school year. College is a crazy busy time, so if you plan on having a car on campus, it’s important to make sure it’s a reliable source of transportation. Here are seven things to check off before heading to college from Spieler’s Incorporated.

1. Change Your Oil

Generally, you should change your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, but check your owner’s manual for your car’s range. Before heading off to school, check to see if your oil is close to that time or mile frame. If it’s within a couple hundred miles or within a month of when you should change it, go ahead and change it early so that you don’t have to worry about it in the middle of a busy school year.

2. Check the Fluids

There are many different fluids that are essential to keeping your car running properly. Before headed off to college, check your car’s fluid levels including coolant, brake fluid, and windshield wiper fluid.

3. Check Tire Air Pressure

Nothing ruins a day like a flat tire on the highway. Prevent from having this headache of an emergency by checking your tire air pressure before you leave home. You can purchase an affordable handheld gauge to easily check your pressure. Check your tires before you’ve driven so that they’re “cold”. Most newer cars have a sticker with the recommended tire pressure inside the driver’s door or you can find a chart within your car’s manual. As a general rule of thumb though, tire pressure should normally be between 30 and 35 pounds per square inch, but again make sure to check your car manual.

4. Check the Air Filter

Make sure that you don’t overlook the air filter. This is an important part to check. Without a supply of clean air, the engine will not run as well. In addition, remember to check the cabin filter so that the air inside of the car is fresh and clean.

5. Check Battery

Sometimes batteries die without warning. That’s not always the case though. If your battery has corrosion or if it takes a bit of time for your engine to start after turning your key, these may be signs that the battery may need replacing in the near future. Also, on the top of many batteries, there is a label that includes the date of purchase. If this date was over four years ago, it may be time to consider replacing your battery.

6. Check Lights and Signals

Before heading off to college, check to make sure that all of your lights and signals are working properly. To do this, ask someone to stand outside of your car while you turn them on. Check to see that all of your headlights, tail lights and turn signals are working properly. This simple check could help prevent a possible future car accident.

7. Plan for Emergencies

Let’s face it, sometimes emergencies are inevitable. If you do find yourself broken down on the side of the road, make sure that you’re prepared. Emergency equipment to have on hand includes jumper cables, a spare tire, a car jack and tools that are necessary to change a tire.

Whether you or your child is headed off to college, it can be a very exciting time. Prepare for a safe trip and school year with this vehicle checklist. Stop by Spieler’s Incorporated today for all of your car service needs, so that your car can be in its best condition for the school year. We do more than sell cars at our California, MO dealership, we also help to make sure that your car is running safely.

What You Need to Bring Along When Car Shopping

Do you know what all you need to have with you when you buy a car? Most people don’t or if they do some of these things are easy forgotten. Spieler’s Incorporated would like to remind you with this handy list of things you will need when you are looking for your new ride at the best car dealer in mid mo.

Documentation Needed to Test Drive

Driver’s License

If you find a vehicle you wish to test drive, the first item needed is a copy of your driver’s license. The dealership will keep this on record while you are out driving their vehicle.

Current Vehicle Insurance

Before you can take off in a car for a test drive, you will also need to show the salesperson proof of current auto insurance for their records. A dealer wants to make sure that you are insured if something were to happen while you are driving one of their vehicles around town.

Paperwork for a Purchase

Payment Information

Whether you are receiving financing for the vehicle you plan to purchase, or paying upfront, you will need to get your payment strategy solidified. If you wish to get pre-approved from a lender, you can bring proof of that with you to the dealer. Many car dealerships provide financing services, in which they can help you find a bank that can do a loan on the vehicle you wish to purchase.

If You Have A Trade-In

Trade-In Title

If you plan to trade your current vehicle in when purchasing a new one, be sure to bring the title with you to the dealership. A trade in cannot happen without the proper title work performed. Check your title over and ensure there is not a co-signer, if there is, that individual will need to sign the title as well.

Proof of Insurance

You will have to provide proof of insurance on a new vehicle before driving it off the lot, if it is financed. A simple phone call can be made to your insurance agent so they can get the paperwork squared away. If you have proof of full coverage on the vehicle you are trading-in, the dealership may accept that as proof of insurance. If this is the case, contact your insurance agent as soon as possible to ensure your new car is properly covered.

Another Helpful Tip

Clean Out Your Trade-In

To save you time at the dealership, ensure all personal belongings are removed from the vehicle you plan to trade-in. You will be excited to get in your new ride and drive away, don’t let this task slow you down.

Now that you know that to bring with you when you are out car shopping head to our California, Mo dealership and find your next car. Once you find that perfect one your transaction will be smooth since you have all the items and documents you need. At Spieler’s Incorporated you will find we make car buying easy.
