Top Road Trip Games

How are you going to entertain your kids on your next road trip? Many families take advantage of a long weekend - like Labor Day - to take a trip. It's a great opportunity to spend time together and make new memories with your loved ones. It can be a little tough to spend so much time in a car together, though. Games are a great way to help keep your children (and adults) enteratined. Take a look below for some road trip games for your next adventure.

1. The License Plate Game

As you drive down the road, everyone in the car looks for license plates from different states. The goal is to spot vehicles from all 50 states, although Alaska and Hawaii are rare finds!

2. Tic-Tac-Toe

This classic game will keep 2 members of your road trip entertained for a while. Two players are assigned an X or an O; the two alternate placing their symbol, and then the player with 3 in a row wins. Make a tournament with all passengers or play best of 5 to extend the game.

3. 20 Questions

In the popular road trip game, 20 Questions, the first player mentally chooses an answer; then all participants try to narrow down the answer by asking questions. If the carload gets to the twentieth question without figuring out the answer, the answer is revealed.

4. I Spy

Most people are familiar with I Spy. This is a fun way to get everyone on your road trip involved. The first player starts off with, “I spy with my little eye, something (color/shape)”. The person who spots the correct item wins and is now the one who chooses an object.

5. Hangman

Passengers can play hangman on paper or a small whiteboard. The “Wheel of Fortune” based game gives players a chance to guess the letters that make up the phrase. This is a fun way to test knowledge and pass the time.

6. The Alphabet Game

Similar to I Spy, The Alphabet Game can be played by anyone in the car. Players look for any object outside the vehicle that has letters. The trick to the game is to go in order through the alphabet as you pass signs, buildings, or any object with words. Be warned, this game can be pretty dry if there are few signs along the road you travel.

7. Spot The Car

Another fun twist to I Spy, a player starts the game by selecting a car make and model and everyone tries to spot that type of vehicle. The first person to spot the right car gets to pick the next type to find.

8. The Singing Game

If your group is into music, this is the game for you! When a song comes on and everyone is singing along, randomly mute the radio. The last person still accurately singing the lyrics is the winner.

9. I’m Going on a Picnic

Memory games are a great way to spend time on a road trip. The first participant starts with, “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing….(something that starts with an A). The next person will start the phrase over and add an item that starts with the better B. The goal is to continue through the entire alphabet. The player who is stumped when remembering the full list of items to bring on a picnic loses.

Before you hit the road on your adventure, ensure your ride is ready for the trip. Double check your tires to ensure there is adequate tread to safely navigate the roadway. Also make sure your fluids are filled. You can bring your ride by our California, MO vehicle maintenance department for a quick check up. We can change your oil and perform a multi-point check to make sure your ride is ready for your next road trip! Happy Labor Day Weekend from the entire team at Spieler's Inc.!

Tips for Buying Your First Vehicle

Buying a vehicle is a BIG DEAL! For many, it's the first step toward independence and a major milestone. If you are approaching this stage in your life, you may feel a little anxious about taking this big step. As your family owned car dealership in California, MO, we want to help you through this exciting time in your life. Take a look below to learn some tips for buying your first vehicle.

Know Your Credit Score

Your credit score has a big impact on your car loan rate and your ability to get a loan. If you aren't sure what your credit score is, it's time to find out. Once you know your score, you can start making financial adjustments to raise it, if needed.

Set a Budget

Know your price range before you head to the dealership. This can give you a good idea of what range you should be looking in. Your budget can have a direct impact on the year, style, and mileage of the vehicle you can afford. This price range can help lead your search as you won't want to fall in love with a vehicle you simply cannot afford.

Make a List of Car Features

Once you get ready to go car shopping, think about the features you do and don't want in a ride. If you want a certain color or feature be sure to let your salesperson know this information. They can help point you in the right direction and give you options for rides that have your list of required features and attributes.

Test Drive Vehicles

Once you've narrowed down a few vehicles in which you are interested, it's time to take a test drive. It's important to get a good feel for the vehicle. You can test out how the seat fits, how the vehicle handles, and how you feel driving the ride you are interested in. Test driving can help you further narrow down your ride of choice.

Apply For a Loan

Once you know what you want, it's time to apply for a car loan. Our finance department can help guide you through the loan application process. You'll need to provide some personal information to see if you qualify. No matter what your credit situation looks like, we can help you find a loan that works with your unique situation.

Line Up Insurance

As you are finalizing the purchase of your vehicle, you'll need to provide proof of insurance. Have this information in mind as you are seriously looking to purchase a vehicle in mid-Missouri. At this time, you can shop around for insurance for your new ride to get the best rates possible.

Think About All Costs

Your monthly payment is not the only expense that goes hand in hand with buying a new vehicle. When it comes time to register your vehicle with the DMV, you will need to pay sales tax on your purchase. You will also need to get new tags for your ride. If you choose a vehicle with different fuel efficiency that you are used to, you will need to work the increased gas prices into your budget, as well.

Now that you know all about these tips for buying your first car in mid-MO, you're ready to start car shopping. Stop by Spieler's Incorporated to check out our current selection of vehicles. One of our salespeople can help you find the right ride for your wants and needs. We look forward to helping you find the perfect new ride!

Plenty of Storage Space

SUV's offer ample storage space. The back door often offers a wide range of storage options AND it's much taller than a car for those unusual items you may haul. Along with storage space, there is typically more seating space available in an SUV. This type of vehicle can sometimes offer a third row of seats, depending on the model you are looking for. In addition to extra seats, an SUV often has larger seats and more foot room than it's counterparts. If you often have people in the backseat, an SUV offers comfortable seating for everyone in your vehicle.

🚌Safety Tips for Back to School🚌

It's that time of year again, the kids will be going back to school in the next few weeks. As this time of year rolls around, it's important to keep safety tips when it comes to school drop-offs and navigating around buses top of mind. As your dedicated car dealership in California, MO, we want to help keep you and your kids safe this back to school season. Take a look below to learn some quick safety tips reminders to refresh as the school year gears up.

Watch Out For Bus Stops

As you drive to and from school, there will likely be busses traveling along your same route. Keep in mind that a bus cannot come to a stop as quickly as you may be able to; allow adequate stopping distance when flowing a bus. Be prepared to stop frequently when driving behind a bus, they will stop to drop off students often. Remember, all lanes of traffic must stop when students are entering or exiting a bus on the roadway. A 10 foot radius around the bus is the most dangerous place for a child. Be sure to allow enough space for children to exit the bus safely. Keep in mind that children are unpredictable, and often unaware of dangerous situations that a road can present. Being aware of busses and children this back to school season will help promote a safe commute for everyone involved.

Use Caution at the Loading Zone

Schools typically have specific pick-up and drop-off safety suggestions for parents. When taking your kids to school, or picking them up, make sure you know the procedure. Do not double park in a school loading zone; this can prevent a child from seeing other vehicles. Try to avoid picking up or dropping off your children across the street from the school. This may make your commute quicker but can also create a dangerous situation for kids when they have to cross a road or parking lot at a busy time.

Look Out for Pedestrians at Crosswalks

Roads surrounding schools are filled with crosswalks. Many children heading to and from school will use these spaces to cross the road. Do not block a crosswalk when stopped at a light or stop sign, forcing the students to walk around your vehicle and out of the crosswalk. It is a good rule of thumb to stop and let a child cross the road if they are waiting. Sometimes kids forget to stop and wait, and may dart out into the road without being aware of oncoming traffic. Keep an eye out for children walking along or crossing the road when heading back to school this year.

Now that you have a refresh of safety tips of going back to school, you're ready to get your kids ready for the big day. As you prep your children for back to school, you should also ensure your vehicle is ready for the school drop-offs and other activities that go hand in hand with the school year gearing back up. Whether it's sports practice or other extracurricular activities, you may be on the run this fall. Bring your ride by Spieler's Incorporated to have one of our factory trained mechanics take a look at it. We can let you know if there's anything you should have repaired before you get ready for the busy school year!
