9 Quick Tips to Improve Fuel Efficency

A number of drivers are interested in saving money on fuel expenses. Finding easy ways to decrease your fuel usage is not only good for your pocket book, it's good for the environment too! Here at Spieler's Incorporated, we know how important it is to cut back on your fuel expense. If you're interested in saving some dough at the pump, take a look at the tips provided below by the best car dealer in mid-Missouri.

1) Remove Baggage

An easy way to improve your fuel efficiency, is to lighten your load. Remove any unnecessary items from your vehicle, that may weigh it down. From extra bags you keep forgetting to take out to random boxes full of stuff in the back, removing these items can help improve your fuel efficiency, by simply cleaning out your vehicle.

2) Reduce Wind Resistance

While it may not be practical at all times, try to avoid traveling a long distance with an item that causes wind resistance. Any items on your luggage racks or large items in the bed of a truck can put a drag on your vehicle, causing it to consume more fuel.

3) Shift Smoothly

Heavy braking and accelerating at a quick pace can put a damper on your fuel efficiency. Try to shift smooth and drive with caution, when traveling in your vehicle. This is an easy way to increase your fuel efficiency.

4) Don't Rev

While it may be tempting, don't rev your engine. This is simply a waste of gasoline, which puts a drain on your wallet.

Speeding causes an over use of gasoline, as your vehicle has to use more fuel to get up to speed. Try to keep your speed at the recommended MPH for the road in which you are traveling on.

6) Regular Maintenance

Maintaining your engine can help to keep your fuel usage in check. If there is something wrong with your ride, it may cause your fuel consumption to rise. It's a good idea to know what fuel economy your vehicle gets, that way if it suddenly gets higher, you know it bring it into get maintenance.

7) Roll Down Hills

Gravity is on your side, when you're driving down a hill. You can let off the gas and coast down many hills. This can help counteract the fuel consumption that is required to get UP the hill. Don't use unnecessary gas to accelerate down a hill, when you will get down it either way.

8) Avoid Heavy Traffic

Stop & go traffic can lead to a higher amount of fuel consumption. If you can, avoid rush hour traffic, where you have to accelerate and brake often. This can help reduce the amount of fuel used to navigate to your destination.

9) Plan Your Errands

Driving less will reduce the amount of fuel your vehicle will consume. Try to plan your daily errands so they can be achieved in one trip, therefore lowering your drive time and being more fuel efficient.

Now that you know some easy ways to increase your fuel efficiency, you're ready to start implementing these changes into your everyday driving technique. What's the Difference Between a Sun & Moonroof?

Is a sunroof / moonroof on your list of features you want in your next ride? While the two terms are usually used interchangeably, there is a difference between a moonroof and a sunroof. Your trusted car dealer in mid-Missouri can help you find a new or used vehicle, with the feature you are after. Spieler's Inc. has dedicated this week's blog to comparing the two roof features, you can find in our vehicles.

Sunroof

A piece of glass that can be moved to open, is known as a sunroof. Most sunroofs are completely transparent, to allow as much light is as possible. They usually slide or tilt open, to let the natural elements into your vehicle. Whether you want to feel the wind in your hair or let the sun shine into your ride, a sun roof is the way to go! There are a number of sunroof options available, some of which we have included below.

Types of Sunroofs

Pop Up: Manually operated glass that pops out when it the open position. Sometimes these types of sunroofs can be entirely removed.

Built In: Fully automatic and slides between the car's roof, when opened. These will sometimes come with a bonus feature that includes a sun shade, auto close, vents, and more.

Tilt and Slide: A combination of sliding back and popping up, this option allows for different variations of and open sunroof.

Top Mount: This type will slide back on the rails, mounted on the top of the car's roof. Typically this sun roof option comes with a wind deflector, that can reduce the amount of wind noise, as you travel down the road.

Panoramic: A large or multi paneled glass that offers openings at the front and rear seats. This type can be fixed glass panels or functioning, depending on the vehicle.

Foldable: Some European cars may feature sun roofs that collapse back, similar to the way convertible tops fold back. They are made of fabric and open wider than a glass sunroof.

Moon Roof

A moonroof is a stationary piece of glass, usually tinted, that allows light to enter the cabin of your car, truck, SUV, or van. This allows you to enjoy the beautiful scenery and sky, without having to open a window. No matter what the temperature is outside, you can allow the natural sun light into your vehicle!

National Car Care Month

Did you know April is National Car Care Month? As winter has offically ended and spring has sprung, this is a great time to give your car a little extra love. To protect it from the harsh winter wear and prepare it for the warm days of summer, April is the ideal time to care for your car. Your trusted car dealer in mid-Missouri is here with a few helpful tips, on how to prepare your ride this month.

Check Tires

After the wear and tear of winter, it's important to check your tires. April brings about many showers, which causes hazardous driving conditions. For a safe experience on the road, ensure your tire tread is sufficient to move water and grip the road. While you are looking at your tire tread, also ensure your tire pressure is even on all the tires.

Replace Wiper Blades

As the season changes, it's time to inspect your wiper blades. Many times they will need replaced, due to damage caused from the winter months. The dry air, in combination with the ice, can cause your blades to crack and break. For a clean and clear view through your windshield, replace your wiper blades this spring.

Inspect Brakes

Brakes are a very important part on your vehicle. This spring, make sure you inspect your breaks for any wear and tear that may have occured over the winter months. Your brake pads wear down over time and will need to be changed, if damaged or worn.

Deep Clean

Take a little extra time to deep clean the exterior of your vehicle this April. An automatic car wash can be helpful to remove any road salt that has built up over the winter months. If this salt is not washed off, it may start to erode your vehicle, causing rust. It can also be helpful to apply a wax to protect your vehicle's paint, after the harsh winter weather.

Double Check Emergency Kit

Make sure your vehicle has an emergency kit. If it does, open it up and ensure everything inside is still in tact. A first aid kit is an important piece of this emergency kit. Also try to make sure you have some canned food items available, should you get stranded. A flash light is another helpful item to keep in your emergency kit. Jumper cables can come in handy, as well!

Now that you know these helpful car care tips, you are ready to prepare your vehicle for the spring & summer months to come. The best car dealer in mid-Missouri knows the importance of taking care of your investment. If you are ready to purchase a new ride this spring, we are the place to go! We have a wide selection of vehicles ranging from vans to cars to SUVs to trucks. No matter what ride you are after, visit Spieler's Incorporated this spring!
