9 Tips for Better Fuel Economy

Technology has made cars, trucks, and SUVs way more economical in the last few years, but it seems we are always looking for ways to get better fuel economy. Your Mid- Missouri car dealership knows we all like saving money, especially on a product we use daily! Not only is using less fuel leaving more money in your pocket, but it is also better for the environment. Spieler’s Incorporated would like to share a few tips to help you save at the pump.

1) Remove Baggage

An easy way to improve your fuel efficiency is to lighten your load. Remove any unnecessary items from your vehicle, that may weigh it down. From extra bags you keep forgetting to take out to random boxes full of stuff in the back, removing these items can help improve your fuel efficiency, by simply cleaning out your vehicle.

2) Reduce Wind Resistance

While it may always not be practical, try to avoid traveling a long distance with an item that causes wind resistance. Any items on your luggage racks or large items in the bed of a truck can put a drag on your vehicle, causing it to consume more fuel.

3) Shift Smoothly

Heavy braking and accelerating at a quick pace can put a damper on your fuel efficiency. Try to shift smooth and drive with caution, when traveling in your vehicle. This is an easy way to increase your fuel efficiency.

4) Keep Tires Properly Inflated

Check your tire pressures regularly. A low tire can cause higher rolling resistance and cause a drop in your fuel mileage.

5) Keep an Eye on Speed

Speeding causes your engine to turn more RPMs and in turn, will use more gasoline as your vehicle has to use more fuel to get up to speed. Try to keep your speed at the recommended MPH for the road in which you are traveling.

6) Regular Maintenance

Maintaining your engine can help to keep your fuel usage in check. If there is something wrong with your ride, it may cause your fuel consumption to rise. It's a good idea to know what fuel economy your vehicle gets, that way if it suddenly gets less, you know its time to bring it in to get maintenance.

7) Roll Down Hills

Gravity is on your side when you're driving down a hill. You can let off the gas and coast down many hills. This can help counteract the fuel consumption that is required to get UP the hill. Don't use unnecessary gas to accelerate down a hill, when you will get down it either way.

8) Avoid Heavy Traffic

Stop and go traffic can lead to a higher amount of fuel consumption. If you can, avoid rush hour traffic, where you must accelerate and brake often. This can help reduce the amount of fuel used to navigate to your destination.

9) Plan Your Errands

Driving less will reduce the amount of fuel your vehicle will consume. Try to plan your daily errands so they can be achieved in one trip, therefore lowering your drive time and being more fuel-efficient.

We hope these simple tips will increase your fuel mileage. If you notice a decrease in your fuel economy, bring in to Spieler’s Incorporated Service Department and let us check your vehicle over. Top 7 Ways to Improve Fuel Consumtion

Fuel consumption directly impacts the amount of money you spend at the pump. If you can make the amount of fuel in your tank last longer, it can help to save some money. As your family-owned car dealership in California, MO, we know saving money on gas is important. Fuel consumption is an easy way to cut back on your gas expense. Take a look below to learn the easy ways you can adjust your driving habits for better fuel mileage.

1. Reduce Wind Resistance

While it may not be practical at all times, try to avoid traveling a long distance with an item that causes wind resistance. Any items on your luggage racks or large items in the bed of a truck can put a drag on your vehicle, causing it to consume more fuel.

2. Keep an Eye on Speed

Speeding causes an overuse of gasoline, as your vehicle has to use more fuel to get up to speed. Try to keep your speed at the recommended MPH for the road in which you are traveling on.

3. Roll Down Hills

Gravity is on your side when you're driving down a hill. You can let off the gas and coast down many hills. This can help counteract the fuel consumption that is required to get UP the hill. Don't use unnecessary gas to accelerate down a hill, when you will get down it either way.

4. Use Cruise Control

Using cruise control can help keep your acceleration at bay when traveling a constant speed. This also helps when saving on the amount of fuel your vehicle uses as you drive down the highway. If you don't have a vehicle with cruise control, try to keep an even speed when traveling to avoid speeding up and using extra gasoline

5. Shift Smoothly

Heavy braking and accelerating at a quick pace can put a damper on your fuel efficiency. Try to shift smooth and drive with caution, when traveling in your vehicle. This is an easy way to increase your fuel efficiency.

6. Secure the Gas Cap Correctly

About 147 million gallons of gas were lost last year due to evaporation. Ensure your gas tank cap is on tight and secured properly. This can help keep the gasoline you purchased exactly where you want it - inside your gas tank. If you have a faulty cap, try to get that repaired as soon as possible.

7. Plan Your Trips Ahead

It's best to take one trip instead of several to run your errands. Think ahead of all the places you need to go before you leave home. Start at the location furthest away and work your way back toward your home. This can help to reduce the waste of unnecessary gas driving all over town. While it does not always work out to plan ahead and take one trip, it's best to minimize the number of trips to and from your home throughout the day.

Now that you've learned a few easy ways to improve your fuel consumption, you're ready to make changes to your driving habits. A few simple adjustments can make a major difference to your gas expense. If you have made changes to your driving techniques and still don't notice lower totals at the gas pump, it may be time to have your vehicle checked for maintenance. Stop by our shop for vehicle maintenance in mid-MO. Here at Spieler's Inc., we can check over your ride and ensure all systems are properly working.

5 Tip to Improve your Fuel Economy

Who doesn’t want to save money at the gas pump? While price checking and membership perk cards are a great way to save on gasoline expenses, improving your vehicle fuel economy can help as well. Gasoline is a necessary purchase that car owners have to make on a regular basis. Cutting down on the amount spent at the gas station can free up some of your funds. The best car dealer in Mid-MO has provided some helpful tips to improve your miles per gallon (MPG) on the roadway.

1. Avoid Aggressive Driving

Not only is aggressive driving very dangerous for you and others on the road, it is tough on your fuel usage. Accelerating quickly and slamming on the breaks is not ideal for optimum fuel economy. Try to avoid driving your vehicle in an aggressive manner for savings at the pump.

2. Roll Those Windows Down

Driving with the windows down is a little more fuel efficient than driving with the windows up, and air conditioning on. Although we would not encourage you to do so if it is uncomfortable outside, but on a nice fall day, lower your windows and enjoy the beautiful weather.

3. Lighten Your Load

While this can be a tricky tasks, a vehicle with less weight has a better fuel economy. We are not suggesting you kick your family out of the car, but take unnecessary items out of the back seat or trunk. Lightening the load can improve your fuel usage and save you money next time you fuel up.

4. Inflate Tires

Ensure your tires are aired up to the suggested PSI level. The air in tires fluctuate as the temperature changes, check your tire inflation level periodically when the weather changes during the season. Properly inflated tires can help optimize your fuel economy on the vehicle you drive.

5. Change Oil and Filters

Regular oil changes can drastically improve the fuel efficiency of your vehicle. Over time, the oil in your car builds up dirt and other particles that can hinder the performance of the engine, causing the fuel efficiency to suffer. When an oil change is performed, the filters are typically changed at the same time, helping the engine perform better for optimum fuel economy.  Make sure you schedule regular oil and filter changes for your vehicle.

While there are a number of fuel saving cards and membership reward programs available for savings on gasoline purchase, maximizing your fuel economy can save you money as well. Spieler’s Incorporated wants to help you save at the pump. For all of your service and repair needs, come to our service department in California, Missouri. How to Improve your MPG

Everyone has a tip when it comes to improving your fuel economy.  As the best car dealer near Jefferson city, we've heard some tall tales from customers about Fuel economy. Notable stories include manual transmissions getting better gas mileage and trailing semi trucks to coast in their shadow.  While these are completely untrue and more than slightly dangerous, there are several handy tips that are TRUE.  Here are 5 tips everyone needs to know to maximize the fuel efficiency of their vehicle.

Let off the Gas!

Instead of putting the pedal to the metal at the green light and racing forward, gradually accelerate.  Driving with quick acceleration kills the efficiency between the engine and the wheels, and the return is a marginally faster beginning.  Once your up to speed, set the cruise control and coast.  Most vehicles are optimized to move at 65 MPH or less, and anything over that will directly reduce your fuel economy.

Change the Oil and Filters

No, your mechanic isn't trying to get into your wallet. Being regular with oil changes drastically improves the fuel efficiency of your engine. As a car or truck runs, the engine will slowly gather dirt from natural wear and tear. The oil picks this dirt and dust up and loses a lot of its properties: causing the engine to work harder. Changing the oil not only keeps the engine running smoothly, but also allows the mechanic to look at and change the air filter. A dirty air filter prevents the engine from getting enough air to work at peak efficiency- costing you in miles per gallon.

Enjoy the Temperature

No one recommends driving around with the windows down in the middle of the summer, or winter. But if there's no need to have the air conditioner running, get those windows down and enjoy the weather.  This simple trick will keep the vehicle from drawing on the engine to make the air cooler.  This tip was even proven on Mythbusters - driving with the windows down is more fuel efficient than driving with the air conditioning on.

Air Up the Tires

The tires on a vehicle fluctuate in air pressure every year due to the weather.  Every car or truck has a set amount of PSI that each tire should be at.  Should a tire become over or under-inflated, your fuel economy will.

Use the Brakes Less

If you combine the 1st tip of accelerating smoothly, and pay attention to the road, brakes can be used much less than before.  When brakes are applied to a vehicle, they stop or slow down the momentum. This forces the engine to work back up to the speed you wish to reach and is one of the hardest things on an engine.  This is why stop-and-go traffic is so hazardous to the fuel economy, and why most vehicles have two written numbers for MPG : Highway and City.  Use the brakes less by modulating your speed to increase peak fuel efficiency.

Safety First

The number 1 way to improve the average miles per gallon of a vehicle is to drive safely. Here at the best new car dealership in Jefferson City, your safety is incredibly important.  Maintaining safe speeds and utilizing these tips will improve your fuel economy, as well as optimizing the vehicle for your protection.  Come down to Spieler's Incorporated for all your car repair needs and we'll make sure your vehicle is at peak performance before you drive off the lot!
